About
Active for Animals is an Auckland-based youth group for vegetarians, vegans and other young people who care about and want to help animals.
If you are a teacher wanting a class, assembly or lunchtime talk to your students, for primary talks click here to contact the Active for Animals School Speaker programme. For intermediate and high school talks, click here to contact SAFE.
Our members range in age from 8 to 13 years. The group meets monthly on a Tuesday evening from 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm. Meetings are held at the Trades Hall, 147 Great North Rd (between Scanlan and Sussex St) Grey Lynn.
We prefer that new members enroll before attending a meeting, although enrollments can be done on the night. Please contact us to let us know you would like to attend.
We also have occasional external trips, which are held either during the school holidays or at a weekend.
Aims of the group
- have fun
- meet and make friends with like-minded young people
- learn how to cook some great vegetarian/vegan dishes
- play games/watch movies/take part in activities
- help animals by fund-raising, letter writing, banner making, etc
The cost per session is $7, to be paid at the start of each night. This includes the cost of ingredients when we run cooking sessions.
Our key sponsor is The New Zealand Vegetarian Society.
Safety
We take the safety of our members very seriously. For your peace of mind, all our facilitators have been police checked. Marianne has a current first aid certificate. Our members sign in to a record book at the start of the session and the book contains a list of Parent/Guardian contact numbers in case of emergency.
